The first mass was celebrated in Muenster on December 8, 1889, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This was the official opening of the colony. The mass was celebrated by Rev. H. Brickley, pastor of Gainesville, at an altar in the land office.
Our present church is the fourth the parish has built on this site since Muenster was founded in 1889. The first two buildings were destroyed by storms. After losing two church buildings to storms, the parish began a special devotion to St. Joseph and has entrusted the buildings to his care and protection ever since. The third church, serving the parish from 1898-1948, was not destroyed by a storm, but began to crack from a lack of a strong foundation. The present church, finished in 1954, has a foundation that goes more than 20 feet deep into rock. Our parish rejoices in knowing that we have a strong foundation in both our buildings and in our families who have tirelssy worked and prayed to make us what we are today...with All Glory to God.
"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock." Matthew 7:24
