Join us for this year's sung Tenebrae prayer service during Holy Week. There will be an open rehearsal on Wednesday, March 29th at 6:30pm and the service will be on Wednesday, April 5th at 8pm. All events for Tenebrae will take place in the church.
In Latin, tenebrae means “shadows” or “darkness”. Tenebrae is the Church’s celebration of the Hours of Matins and Lauds for Holy Week. Psalms and hymns of lament are read and sung as we reflect on the mystery of Christ’s passion and death for us. Throughout the service, every candle and light in the church is extinguished–one by one–leaving only one light shining as Christ in total darkness of the silent church. At the close of the service, a loud noise is heard representing the “shudder of creation” at Jesus' death and all depart in silence.
